Process of creating webpages

Image
I started off by creating an account on Wix and choosing a template i thought was appropiate for my current affairs magazine website: I played around with the layout, images, fonts, text and boxes so i could get used to it and that i would be comfortable changing it to my own house style etc. I began to take original images for my website, including a black lives matter post, a Corona vaccine image etc so i had some articles for my audience to read. After publishing a few articles, i began my audio content by doing an interview with Heather Crosbie about the environment which i included on my home page. I chose a grey- white and red colour scheme for my website, as it looks professional, fresh and is the similar house style as my contents pages. I also added a CoronaVirus Snapshot to match the conventions of other websites such as Time. My articles included The Environement, NHS and Coronavirus and Black Lives Matter as they are my main current affair topics. Main Masthead on Hom...

Social Links

Image
I have created an Instagram, Facebook and Twitter account for the Horizon current affairs magazine which is constantly featured on my website, with my instagram account being shown on my homepage to the side to keep the audience updated. This was important because my target audience is 16-25 demographic who use social media on a daily basis:

What i need to create my webpages

My webpages will look quite similar in the sense of colour, fonts, layout etc as i wanted to make it as formal as possible. To create my webpages, i will need: Original images- for my articles and showing what my magazine is about AV element- i will do a interview with a model from my magazine to talk about a current affair currently e.g. environment or black lives matter, or even Corona Virus Text and copy- This is important because it gives detail and description of articles and the audience know what my website is about A description of who my business is and what i will portray- about page Contact- i will include a contact area for my audience so they can ask questions etc Competition- Will include a competition form on my homepage (cover 2 competition) to win the next 3 issues free Issues page where i include all my stories from world, business and health to form the conventions of a current affairs magazine website

Wix.com or Weebly.com

Image
I will be using Wix.com to build my website for my magazine, because it is user-friendly, and they already contain lots of useful templates for different websites, so that i have a variety to choose from. Wix also lets me design and edit very easily, using the drag and drop method. I did research on both wesbites, and my attention was drawn to wix. Wix has overtook Weebly in recent years. They have developed features such as the video box and have made every effort to address the concerns users had. Wix Turbo, does make their sites even faster too. Weebly has not moved its platform forward at nearly the same rate. Even though it is a reliable and tested platform, the templates are also stylish and responsive but that's it. Weebly will only satisfy the most basic use case, whereas Wix is a lot more flexible and initiative.

Key elements of wesbite

 -  My website will confirm the expectations of current affairs. This means i will include news site links such as BBC, and add articles about new and latest current affairs, along with images to support this. - Social Media links- i will use these to communicate with my readers, and give them the latest updates with my current affairs magazine. This also fits into my 16-25 middle to upmarket demographic, as more young people use social media on a daily basis, than the older generation. - Working hyperlinks - Contact details page -Clear and detailed layout- images and text in the right place so that readers are satisfied. - Colour scheme- modern (white, blue, red etc) that match my magazines - Editors note/introduction to a new current affairs magazine- to make the readers aware. -Audio visual content- interview with one of the models about a current affairs issue e.g. black lives matter

Flat Plan and wireframe draft for website

Image
Home Page Issues page I have chosen this layout for the homepage and about pages because its minimalist as that is all that can really be achieved with the planning method, but also because the website itself should be minimalist as the main focus should be on the current affairs stories. i will mostly have minimal colours such as greys, whites, black (colour scheme on my contents pages) but important information will be in visible colours to attract the audience. T he homepage link, menu, social media links, subscription link and essential website links/information are constantly present on the home page. I will also include an interview on the homepage with one of the models about a current affairs issue.

Websites- textual analysis

Image
Vogue:  https://www.vogue.co.uk/ The layout is neat and tidy, with lots of pictures on the home page, leading to articles related to that original image. At the top it shows the tabs which are easy to navigate and find. This shows what the website will feature and you can click on them to find all the articles etc linked to that tab etc fashion: The overall navigation of the site is easy and simple, with fast links that are clear. The home page features lots of different topics, from beauty to anti-racism. This again features many different links, original photos and articles related to that topic. The language is clear and big to read, with the titles and captions in a high quality serif font. Some are in bold making it easier to read and makes it stand out/contrast against the smaller writing. I will use this in my own website. The images they have used are usually models/celebrities posing either in a studio, or in a chosen location. They follow the typical conventions of...

Casting

Image
For my environment edition, i used my brother josh, who represents a 17 year old, who wants to see a change in the environment. In the main photos i have took for my magazine, he is seen looking out to see and on mountains, as well as featuring next to historical monuments. I chose Josh as i thought he would look appealing in the photographs, and his tall figure would make it seem attractive. For my Black Lives matter edition, i used my friend Katie to model as a protester, and wants to stand for black lives, as well to see a change in society. I chose her because she is photogenic, and again would look appealing to others.

Locations

Image
Environment magazine:   I have chosen to base the photos for my environment magazine in Isle of Arran, Scotland, because of the beautiful scenery, and i think it links well as to what my message will be in the magazine. Some examples of the location include: Black Lives Matter magazine As for my BLM edition, i will base my photos in the town centre of Newcastle, and Whitley Bay, as there have been protests and events about the Black lives matter happening, and i wanted to make it seem as real as possible for my audience.

Plan B

My plan A is to complete 2 editions of a magazine on the environment, and the black lives matter issues going on. I still want to keep these topics, as i feel deeply that they need to be portrayed more in the media. Therefore, i will try and stick to this decision and put this across in my final editions.  If my casting doesn't work out with my current models, i will chose people close to me that can do it in limited time, as well as shoot my photos in local areas to save time.  For my environment magazine, i shot my photos in Scotland, meaning i would have to change my location to Whitley Bay for example, as i was in Scotland for a limited amount of time. This would probably affect the quality of my photos as the scenery in Scotland was much more high quality/ photogenic than in Whitley Bay. However, Whitley Bay still has some suitable locations i could shoot my photos such as St Marys lighthouse and Whitley Bay beach which i could use in my magazine. As for my BLM edi...

Statement of Intent

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief?  Product 1: I have chosen to produce a magazine which I will portray the Black lives matter Protests and the global environmental crisis. These current affairs are global, meaningful and have an impact on many people's lives. The Representation is highly significant, because it is highlighting the issues and situations currently visible in the world, especially the racism in America. Therefore, creating real representations of this will help attract audiences and bring attention to what is going on. My idea for this came from the events occurred this year. This grabbed my attention to create a magazine about the horrific situation. My photography will show the representation of the lives of these black people, who go through racial abuse, when they are innocent people. I will do this through the media language including mise-en-sce...

Photography elements

Image
' At least 4 different main images across the covers and contents page' Both boy and a girl- this will represent at least two of the different social groups, and make the magazine seem suitable for all genders. First Edition: All about protest and gender inequality- includes black lives matter. Settings/location- streets/ally way- gives a more reality and urban feel to the theme. I also think it gives a powerful message about how real society is and the problems that people face everyday. Models- Both female and male, but i will also try and include different races to diversify my magazine cover. This also expands my social group representations. I am going to take lots of different angles and shot types on the camera of the models, and then limit my choices out so i get a broader range. Mise-en-scene- The clothes they wear and makeup etc will need to match my theme. Therefore, if i wad to do the black lives matter protest, i could do 'army lines' makeup an...

Mood Board

Image
I have used a range of different photos to highlight the style of my magazine, but also about what is going on in the world currently. The two main stories happening now (May/june 2020) is the Coronavirus/global pandemic and also the black lives matter protests happening in London and the USA.  My two magazine front covers will possibly have two different colour schemes, with one being black and white to show the black lives matter protests. This will create diversity for my magazine brand and i can use different types of images to show this as well.  The style of my magazine will be more of a 'vogue' feel or the Week, which uses a lot of editing in the main images. These images conform to the expectations of a entertainment magazine because its colourful and also i want to include different stories across my magazines. I am going to use original and modern fonts for my masthead, head lines, copy etc to match with other magazines.

Key elements of my current affairs magazine

Image
As current affairs is all about news and politics, as well as cultural and social issues, i want to base my magazine around these issues, so that it is aware to my audience what is happening in the UK right now, as well as around the world. My audience is a 16-25 middle to up market demographic, both males and females, therefore i will need to appeal to that particular market of audience to make my magazine successful and popular. To do this, i need to select an appropriate location, model and content of my photographs i will be using. Location: Outside- beach, allyway, field : gives a more natural and social feel to the magazine Plain wall background- in a house etc- makes model stand out even more Editing: If i was to do my magazine about the protests going on, then i will edit my photo to be black and white to show we are all equal Colourful is also attractive so i could edit the exposure etc of the photo on my next edition to attract more creative people- could b...

Perfect Audience member

Image
My magazine will attract this perfect audience member because i am going to make it fun and creative, to match the age demographic, but also include social and cultural issues that they are most likely aware of, so they are attracted to read it and want to be included in it.
